En esta temporada, aparte de mejorar la calidad del dibujo, también evoluciona el argumento. Se pasa de lo importante que era el "drift" o derrape en la First Stage, al resto de cualidades de un coche (potencia, turbo...). Un grupo de Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, llamado los Emperadores, se aproxima a Gunma para vencer a los equipos locales en sus pistas y pegar las pegatinas cortadas de los equipos a los que vencen en el alerón de su coche. Esta visita supondrá un nuevo reto tanto para Takumi, que se dará cuenta de que existe un límite incluso para él; como para Ryosuke Takahashi.
